Co-Simulation and Automation in the Field of Thermal Management

This online seminar gives an overview of different kinds of co-simulation or automation for thermal management simulation tools and shows when to apply which approach.

You will get to know coupling techniques in which you receive a thermal simulation model as a black box and where you do not need any knowledge of the software, the model itself or any programming knowledge to use the model. On the other hand, we give an overview of how a simulation tool can be controlled and automated using a script in order to be able to carry out extensive parameter studies or optimizations, for example.

In this seminar we will use the thermal management software KULI to demonstrate these different approaches and capabilities.



  • Low level coupling via source code
    • Excel "User Interface" for non-KULI users
    • Mass batch simulation in Python
    • Parameter variation in Python
  • Mid level/assisted coupling
    • Integration of a KULI model into Matlab/Simulink using KULI Simulink Toolbox
  • High level/Black box coupling using a KULI FMU
    • Definition of the FMU interface
    • Export the KULI model as FMU
    • Using the FMU in a Co-simulation master (Matlab/Simulink)
